The volume presents the most recent progress in application of microbial community analysis, health-related microorganisms management, nutrient removal, waste sludge minimization and materials recovery, and water management in tropical countries. Included in this work are the following major topics in wastewater treatment: application of various innovative techniques of molecular biology such as FISH, DGGE to microbial community analysis of various types of wastewater treatment; microbial aspect of biological removal of nitrogen and phosphorus; emission of nitrous oxide during nitrogen transformation; reduction of sludge production in the wastewater treatment process using membrane and material recovery of biopolymer and cell of photosynthetic bacteria. Health-related microbiology in water supply and water management using recent innovative molecular biological tools is presented and health risk management is discussed. The practical application of wastewater treatment in developing countries, especially tropical countries is also reviewed. Researchers in the field of environmental engineering and applied microbiology, and practical engineers who wish to learn the most recent progress in the microbiological aspect of water and wastewater management, will find this book a useful tool.

Those who are generally familiar with this field will immediately embrace the subject as a treatise on solid-liquid separations. However, the subject is much broader, in that the technologies discussed are not just restricted to pollution control hardware that rely only upon physical methods of treating and purifying wastewaters. The book attempts to provide as wide a coverage as possible those technologies applicable to both water e. The methods and technologies discussed are a combination of physical, chemical and thermal techniques. There are twelve chapters. The first of these provides an orientation of terms and concepts, along with reasons why water treatment practices are needed.

When we refer to water purification, it makes little sense to discuss the subject without first identifying the contaminants that we wish to remove from water. Also, the source of the water is of importance. Our discussion at this point focuses on drinking water. Groundwater sources are of a particular concern, because there are many communities throughout the U. The following are some of the major contaminants that are of concern in water purification applications, as applied to drinking water sources, derived from groundwater. Heavy metals represent problems in terms of groundwater pollution. The best way to identify their presence is by a lab test of the water or by contacting county health departments.

The use of conventional water and wastewater treatment processes becomes increasingly challenged with the identification of more and more contaminants, rapid growth of population and industrial activities, and diminishing availability of water resources. Three emerging treatment technologies, including membrane filtration, advanced oxidation processes AOPs , and UV irradiation, hold great promise to provide alternatives for better protection of public health and the environment and thus are reviewed in this paper. The emphasis was placed on their basic principles, main applications, and new developments. Advantages and disadvantages of these technologies are compared to highlight their current limitations and future research needs. It can be concluded that, along with the growing knowledge and the advances in manufacturing industry, the applications of these technologies will be increased at an unprecedented scale.

Most industries are thirsty and consume a lot of water. We provide extensive coverage of energy-efficient and reliable pumping, mixing, and aeration solutions for all industrial water treatment processes. Water is used for the main industrial processes, and also for washing, cooling, heating, boiler feed, firefighting, rinsing, and for many other purposes. Prior to using this water, it has to be treated to make it cleaner, potable, or ultra-pure. And after the water has been used, it has to be treated again before being discharged into a body of water or partially re-used. Industrial water treatment includes both upstream and downstream treatments. Our pumps and other process equipment operate efficiently and reliably in pulp, paper and board, food and beverage, metals and mining, oil and gas, chemical process industry, and in many other industries to optimize the treatment of all types of water needed, while at the same time reducing the energy consumption.

Common disinfection methods for water and wastewater treatment are expected to be effective for inactivation of coronaviruses when executed properly. The purpose of this article is to provide water and wastewater utilities with a summary of some of the relevant issues related to coronaviruses treatment with considerations and recommendations to water and wastewater treatment practitioners with respect to coronaviruses in general. It is important to remember that an extensive body of literature on the effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment processes for coronaviruses is not available, and as always, site-specific water-quality and treatment-plant details may result in variation between full-scale effectiveness and research results found in the laboratory. This book discusses major technological advances in the treatment and re-use of wastewater. Its focus is on both novel treatment strategies and the modifications and adaptions of conventional processes to optimize the treatment of a complex variety of pollutants, including organic matter, chemicals and micropollutants in different water resources, as well as the integration of water treatment with bioelectricity production. Written by leading researchers in the field, it will be of interest to a wide range of researchers in both industry and academia.

Advanced technologies in water and wastewater treatment

Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from municipal wastewater , containing mainly household sewage plus some industrial wastewater. Physical, chemical, and biological processes are used to remove contaminants and produce treated wastewater or treated effluent that is safe enough for release into the environment.

- Mord. Убийство.
